OnePlus 7T V/S OnePlus 8, which one is better? Which one should you buy?
Oneplus 8 was launched on April 24, 2020. Though the Global pricing of both the Oneplus 8 & 8 Pro seemed very high , they launched it here in India at a very remarkable price. But is pricing only the matter to look forward to or there are other key aspects in a smartphone? Here is my view on Oneplus 8 v/s Oneplus 7T :
This is Oneplus 8, this device was launched at Rs 41,999 which is less than the Global market. But does Oneplus 8 compete with last year's Oneplus 7T?
The general specification of Oneplus 8 is :
| Front Camera | 16 MP |
| Battery | 4300 mAh |
| Processor | Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 |
| Display | 6.55 inches |
| Ram | 6 GB |
| Rear Camera | 48 MP + 16 MP + 2 MP |

This smartphone comes with 6.55 inch Fluid Amoled display with 90Hz refresh rate and 88.69% screen to body ratio. Under the hood this smartphone has Latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Octa Core processor with 6gb/128gb ram. On the back it has Triple Rear facing camera which consists of 48 MP Primary Shooter, 16 MP Ultra-Wide Camera & 2MP macro lens. On front it has 16 MP shooter with 1080p 30 FPS with EIS support. Oneplus 8 runs on Android on top Oxygen OS which is loved by many tech enthusiast. Oneplus 8 packs in 4300 mah battery inside it with Warp Charging, which can last you a day with full charge after moderate usage.
Now lets see Specifications of Oneplus 7T smartphone :
| Front Camera | 16 MP(Same as Oneplus 8) |
| Battery | 3800 mAh with 30W Warp Charging |
| Processor | Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ |
| Display | 6.55 inches(Same as Oneplus 8) |
| Ram | 8 GB |
| Rear Camera | 48 MP + 12 MP + 16 MP |
As we see there are Some similarities between the two devices but also some differences which decides whether you want to buy Oneplus 8 or not.
Major differences :
First : Oneplus 7T comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ while Oneplus 8 comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 which is 15% better in performance than its predecessor. But while doing day to day tasks and playing games like PUBG and you will notice no to very minor difference in the Gameplay. So, its okay to go with 855+ rather than 865 "unless" you want a 5G device. Snapdragon 865 is 5G ready processor so is Oneplus 8.
Second : Both the smartphones have Triple Camera setup in the back, although the setup is different lens wise. Oneplus 7T has 48 MP + 12 MP ( Telephoto) + 16 MP (Ultrawide) while Oneplus 8 has 48 MP + 16 MP Ultra-Wide + 2 MP Macro. Here we see that Oneplus 7T has more capable and more sensible camera setup than Oneplus 8. Oneplus 8 has 2 MP macro lens which I think is not acceptable at this price range as this setup also comes in budget smartphones. Also it would have been better to opt for telephoto lens because it can also help you in macro shots. I think a telephoto lens would have been a great option.
Third : Battery - Oneplus 7T has a smaller 3800 mah battery while Oneplus 8 has 4300 mah battery. So easily Oneplus 8 wins here by few margins as 500mah extra battery can provide upto 30 to 1 hr extra screen on time.
Fourth : Display - Oneplus 7T comes with 6.55 inch FHD+ Amoled display while Oneplus 8 comes with 6.55 inch Fluid Amoled display , the display is curved on both the sides and looks great but it its prone to more accidental touches and also risk of screen crack or damage. I prefer flat display over curved displays for these two reasons.
Fifth : Pricing - Oneplus 7T comes at 34,999 while Oneplus 8 comes at 41,999(6GB/128GB).
Verdict : So its upto you if you want a latest processor with 5G capabilities , Curved display and bigger battery then Oneplus 8 which is 7,000 more than Oneplus 7T is for you but if you want to save money and opt for a better camera setup, almost similar processor performance and Flat display then Oneplus 7T is the buy for you.
